This semester exam is more a summary of what you feel has been of value in helping you find a future career. A career that is very rewarding. Be sure to save this exam on your student drive for use during your high school years.
Part I
Open the Career Cruising website at http://www.careercruising.com/
Log in and go to Explore careers.
Now list the sixteen career clusters, in order of importance to you. Number 1 being the most important, number 16 the least important.

Next, list five careers within your number one choice for a career cluster.

What are the employment opportunities for your career or job you have chosen, over the next 10 years?
You will need to do some internet research to find your answer, and be sure to include it on your presentation. Go to Google and do a search with terms "employment opportunities for __________" and write the name of your job or career.

You should be finished with the group portion of your project (the Career Cluster portion) So, start or continue with the individual portion of your project. Remember, each person completes their individual career and there are at least 7 powerpoint slides you will have.

Bellwork:
Name one or two people in this class that you work well with.
This doesn't have to be friends, just someone you work will with.
Classwork:
Today, we will change the class routine by starting Career Fair Project.
Carefully read the class handout (leave in class, don't take it with you) then watch the brief presentation.
After you understand what is required of you, start on the presentation. You should be able to decide on what cluster you will choose and complete one or two PowerPoint slides. Take your time and do your best work.

Objective: For you to use factors like working conditions, education, core tasks, and income to sort occupations and find suitable career choices.
Directions:
Open Career Cruising and log into the program
From the main screen, click on Explore Careers, then click on Career Selector.
Select your Favorite School Subjects (preferably 2 or 3 choices). Then click Next.
Click on Occupational Clusters. Select 2 to 3 areas in which you would be interested in working. Then click next.
Click on Education. Select the type of education you plan to pursue. Then click Next.
Click on Core Tasks. Be sure to read all 20 core tasks. Choose 3 to 5 tasks you would like to do regularly at work. Click Next
Click on Earnings. Select the minimum level of income you would like. Click Next.
Click on Working Conditions. Select working conditions you could not tolerate. Click next.
Now click View Results to see careers that match your selections. (Note: If your receive 0 matches,, try clicking on the View Close Matches tab.
Scroll through the list and click on a career that interest you.
Copy everything below in green. Paste it to a Word document. Save it on your student drive as career activity 3.

Objective: Learning more about possible career areas.
Directions:
First, complete the two Plato assignments, How they Compare and A Chefs Life

Next, Open a word document, save it as Plato3_your name on your Student drive, then complete the following questions, using complete sentences on all questions. This assignment and the completion of the two chapters are worth 20 points.

1. What were the five different food careers that were mentioned in “How they compare”? (One was a chef)
2. What is a caterer?
3. Would you prefer a job with regular hours or variable hours?
The assignment mentions minimum wage. What is minimum wage?
4. For any job you have, which is more important to you, wages or hours?
5. What does OJT stand for?
6. There were four options the program talked about, Hours, Outlook, Training Options, and Earnings. List those options in order of importance to you.
7. These career areas might not be what you are looking for, but what are some of the advantages to any of these five career areas.

Write briefly about something important you learned from your first job interview sheets that are due today.

Get out your First Job interviews for credit and to use in class today.
If you don't have your interview sheets get a completed one from Mr. C so you can complete part II of the assignment.

First Job Interviews Part II
Open Microsoft PowerPoint
Save your file as First Job_Your name_class
(remember; to save in your student drive and in my documents)
Make a total of 13 slides
1.Make a title slide: First Job Interviews and add your name and class
2. Make two column slides and label it Introduction. Then write a brief introduction describing each person you interviewed
3-11: Make two column slides for each question asked. Write the question from the interview sheet as the heading, then write each persons answer in a complete sentence. You might write the answers in the first person because you were talking with them.
When you finish with the questions from the interview sheet, you will have 11 slides:
A title slide, and introduction slide and nine question slides.
Slide 12: What are some things you learned from the interviews of these two people?
Slide 13: Make a slide that labeled "Tips for first jobs"then go to this website: http://jobsearch.about.com/cs/justforstudents/a/parttimejob.htmthen write out several tips that you learned about getting your first job .

After you have finished writing you may use slide designs and animation to make your presentation better. You should only get a start today, this assignment will be due Thursday.

1. Family Interviews: Listen to the class lecture, then review the Family Interviews sheet. It is due at the start of class next Monday, October 20th.

2. There are two more Plato assignments to complete: "Do what you like " and "I like your style"

You should complete the first one, "Do what you like" today.

3. Continue working on your PowerPoint presentation on Now and the Future. This will be due Wednesday, Oct 15th. ( See Wednesday, Oct. 8th for details on the project)

Possible Careers
Objective: This assignment is designed to help you continue thinking about careers.
The website is the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and there is a specific site for teens.
Go to the following website http://www.bls.gov/k12/ take a look around the web site, then do the following:

Create a Word Document.
Save it on your s: drive as possible careers __ Your name _ Class
Give your document the title: Possible Careers for me
Then write the following questions, and provide answers, in your own words, using complete sentences. Each answer should be one paragraph, (five sentences) or more, in length. No credit will be given for copy and paste work!
1.What is the title of your possible career? ( One sentence is fine for this!)
2. What is this job like?
3. How do you get ready?
4. How much does this job pay?
5. How many jobs are there?
6. What about the future?
7. Are there other jobs like this?
8. Where can you find more information?

Bellwork: Do you think you would like to have a part time job while in high school. Describe what it might be
Classwork:
1. Family Interviews: Listen to the class lecture, then review the Family Interviews sheet. It is due at the start of class next Monday, October 20th.
2. There are two more Plato assignments to complete: "Do what you like " and "I like your style"
You should complete the first one, "Do what you like" today.

Monday, Oct. 6th. In your own words, write the class rules, procedures, and consequences for your career explorations class.
Use Microsoft Word. Once you have typed it, format your work, and add some clip art if you have time. S
Save your work as rules_your name_your class.

Take home October newsletter, have your parents sign it, including a phone number, then return on Tuesday, to receive credit. (100% credit on Tuesday, 90% on Wednesday... and so on.

Tuesday, Oct. 7th
We will start something new today. Log into your Plato website, then open the first assignment which is titled Oh Mercy! See how much of this you can complete during the class.

Wednesday, Oct. 8th
Continue with the assignment, Oh Mercy! If finished, you may start the next assignment, Want Ads.
If finished, then start the following:
Now and Future
(save your work as: now, future_name_class)
The objective of This Power Point activity is for you to think about the good things in your life now and where you want to be in the future. It also is designed for your teacher and class mates get to know you better.
Directions:
Open the Power Point program,
If you are working with a partner, choose slides that have two columns, one column for you and one column for your partner If your are working alone, just use the single column slides.
Make the following slide titles using one slide per topic: Write a complete paragraph (five sentences) for each topic.

After you have finished with the writing, Make your slides into a slide presentation including an attractive slide design
use slide transitions, one clip art per page
you can use animation if you like.

Your finished presentation will be graded on:
Completeness of project
Use of complete sentences
Good grammar (see the grammar sheet in the classroom)
Accurate spelling
Attractive, detailed, and well thought out slide presentation

Thursday, October 9th, 2008
Today, Complete the second activity in your Plato file. It is called "Training Ads" This will take about 30 minutes. When you have finished, you should have completed a total of two Plato activities this week: Oh Mercy! and Training Ads. Show your completed assignments to Mr. C for Credit.
Then continue with your PowerPoint presentation on Now and the Future. (See Wednesday's assignment for details)

Friday, October 10th, 2008
Today is finish day and grade day. Here's whats due and the credit:
Newsletter home 40 points. You have had all week to get it in for full credit
Plato: Oh Mercy! and Training Ads 20 points for completing both
Rules and Procedures 20 points
Bell work for the week 10 points
Remember, you can hand in late assignments; they receive 50% credit.

If you have finished all these, continue with your Power Point presentation on Now and the Future- due next week.
